The Gospel

Gospel means "good news".  What is this news that is so good?  Below is a quick rundown on what the Bible says about life and death.  See if you can find the Good News.

First let me ask you a couple questions:

1.  Have you come to a place in your spiritual life where you know for certain that if you were to die today that you would go to heaven, or is that something you are still working on?

2.  Suppose you were to die today and stand before God, and he were to say 'Why should I let you into my heaven?' what would you say?

With your answers to these two questions in mind, read what the Bible says about it.

This outline is from Evangelism Explosion International

I.  You can know for sure that you have eternal life.

"These things are written that you may know that you have eternal life." I john 5:13

II. Grace.
     a.  Heaven is a free gift.

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

      b.  It is not earned or deserved.

"For it is by grace that we are saved,  through faith;  it is a gift of God lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

III.  We are all sinners.
      a.  What is sin?  Sin is defined as anything that goes against God and His desires.
      b.  We have all sinned

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."  Romans 3:23

      c.  We cannot save ourselves.  The qualification to earn our way into heaven is perfection
           which we cannot accomplish.

"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect."  Matthew 5:48

IV.  God
      a.  God is merciful - therefore does not want to punish us.
"...God is love."  I John 4:8
"...I have loved you with an everlasting love..."  Jeremiah 31:3
      b.  God is also just (refers to justice) - God must punish sin to be just.
"...[God] will by no means clear the guilty..."  Exodus 34:7
"...the soul that sins, it shall die."  Ezekiel 18:4

      c.  This creates a problem for us in that God loves us yet must punish our sin.
God solves this problem for us...

V.  Jesus Christ
      a.  Who He is - The Bible tells us he is all human yet all God.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  ...And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us..."  John 1:1, 14

      b.  What He did - He died to pay that penalty for our sins.

"All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD laid on Him (Jesus) the iniquity (sin) of us all."  Isaiah 53:6

VI.  Faith - How to Receive the Gift
      a.  Saving Faith is not...
...only a head knowledge about Christ.  The demons believe Christ exists too!
...only a temporal faith such as a financial crisis or physical needs.
      b.  Saving Faith is...
...Trusting in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life.

"...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved..."  Acts 16:31
